Last night we held a little shin dig at our house in honor of Allen’s brother Shane and his fiancée Andrea. The two lovebirds are getting married next month. We actually have this and another important wedding back to back and are looking forward to all of the March matrimony.
Have I ever told you that I love weddings. I do. Before I got married I used to pretend that I didn’t, but now I realize I just wanted to look like a cool girlfriend who didn’t care about stuff like that. Since I am married now it doesn’t matter if I’m cool or not, so I’m free to enjoy them as much as I like. I think I was making a point… oh yeah! – I love weddings. It is so cool to see two sets families and friends come together on the couples behalf. There is the nervousness behind the scenes, the party boys cleaned up in sharp tuxes, the cute flower girl who must be coaxed down the aisle, the anticpation of the first glimpse of the bride, and the excitement of the day that peaks somewhere around Canon in D. And there is cake. Lots of beautiful, delicous wedding cake. Please don’t invite me to your wedding if you aren’t going to have beautiful, delicious cake.
This wedding is different though. I’ve known Shane since we were in middle school, and he has been such a big part of my relationship with Allen. I love him like my own brother. Of the three Pair siblings, he is the youngest, and the last to get married. Andrea is the final piece to complete (this side of) the family. These are the people who will become the aunts and uncles of our children. They will be a part of holidays and birthdays and all stages of our lives. They are our family, and this wedding means so much more to me than tradition and cake.
Congratulations Shane and Andrea. I am looking forward to being there as you get married and begin the rest of your lives.
