spring has sprung

Spring is officially here. After several dry years, the extra amount of rain this Spring has been a blessing for our yard (and our water bill!). The plants in our garden grew seemingly overnight, and the flowers in our yard are standing tall and proud. I made the mistake of leaving my growing-out-of-control cactus outside a couple of weeks ago after repotting it, and the poor thing almost drown. Don’t worry – it is really coming back to life now that it is safe and sound on the kitchen table. Note to self: don’t leave a desert dwelling plant outside in the pouring down rain.

Do you remember this little guy? This picture was taken back in February when I was counting the days till Spring. The tiny lilies struggling to pop out of the soil were the hope I needed to know that warmer weather was on it’s way.

This is what the lilies looked like late this afternoon. What a difference! Most of the flowers had closed for the night, but you get the idea. They are doing exactly what I had hoped, growing back as tall and beautiful as last year.

Speaking of things growing… our garden is growing bigger every day. Several plants have flowers, but none have produced fruit until now. LOOK. Our first little tomato is born. I’ll murder any hornworm that tries to go near the precious little thing. (Retraction: Allen will murder the hornworm while I watch squemishly from five feet back. I don’t have the stomach.)

jennrob - LOL! I like the honesty of how Allen will murder the worm! :) When I first clicked on this page, I thought to myself, does she know she already posted this picture (see I’m a dedicated friend)!. Your flowers are beautiful!May 24, 2009 – 8:39 pm

deb wood - I love the single lily bloom photo. It looks like a greeting card. Congratulations on the tomato triplets. Horn worms beware!May 22, 2009 – 8:35 am
