the concert that won’t be

Last month I confessed my love for Jordan Knight and the New Kids On The Block (NKOTB). When my friends and I found out that NKOTB were coming back to Birmingham on their summer tour, we quickly bought our tickets and pumped ourselves up for the May concert. My portion of the tickets arrived in the mail a short time later. Woo Hoo!

Aren’t they beautiful? They patiently sat, waiting for tonight. Then unexpectedly a few weeks ago, an announcement was made that the Birmingham concert, along with several others had been CANCELLED. What!? A wave of disappointed spread through Birmingham. I’m sure you felt it. While some shows were easily rescheduled, the Birmingham show was straight up cancelled. The fan site simply said refunds were on the way. Ouch Jordan — that hurt.

I have come to believe that the venue in Birmingham did not sell as well as expected. Instead of taking a loss, or breaking even, they just took the easy road out and left us all hanging high and dry. And so it is in show business. When Melina sent me money back, she included this note. Well said my friend, well said.

jennifer - deb is hilarious!!!! i love it! that cheered me up. i went to visit my bro this weekend, and on the way down there, i was thinking, i shouldn’t be here; i should be screaming my head off to NKOTB. oh what a sad, sad, day. for my recovery, i need you to put up a new blog, so i don’t have to see this and be reminded of that fateful day.June 1, 2009 – 3:05 pm

Melissa - I was soooo upset. we were eating lunch friday and one of the girls going said “aww, we were gonna be at new kids tonight”. it made me sad.June 1, 2009 – 9:40 am

Melina - First, I love your Mom. She’s invited to the next NKOTB concert with me. Second, there were exactly 6 ticket holders. Third, I’m too sad to come up with anything else other than I miss Donnie.May 30, 2009 – 8:41 pm

deb wood - teeheehee… I take it Rachel was/is not a NKOTB fan.

I’m so sorry for the three ticket holders. I know it’s “Twisted” but “What’cha Gonna Do?”

“Call it What you Want” “It’s “Officially Over.” You’re a “Big Girl Now” so “Don’t Cry.” Just take it “Step by Step.” It’s “Summertime” so “Tonight” go out ’til “2 in the Morning” keep “Hangin Tough” and “Put it on My Tab”

jennrob - Ouch, this just brings back the deep sadness that I felt on that terrible, terrible, terrible day that you emailed me saying they had cancelled. I have gone back multiple times to their website, HOPING to see a rescheduled concert list, but it’s just a sad, sad, sad fantasy. Will I ever get through this?May 29, 2009 – 11:55 am

Rachel - well, this is proof that they at least sold three of ‘em (which actually kind of surprises me) :)May 29, 2009 – 10:27 am

Paige - I am loving the post…but I think I would disappointment myself. Wow, what a letdown. Guess you have to pack the shirts and fan buttons back in the attic.May 29, 2009 – 9:28 am
