I’m not even sure how it started… a few e-mails were bounced around between our group of friends, and the next thing I know we had booked a flight to Michigan. The whole idea was concocted by my friend Mandi, whose husband Matt is turning 30 tomorrow. She wanted to throw a surprise party for him at his parents home on Glen Lake. For those of us Southerers who have no clue about Mid-Western geography, that is in upstate Michigan close to Lake Michigan. I’m still not entirely sure where we were…
The plan was for the boys to fish for the better part of the day while the party was being set up and guests were arriving. When it was time, we made a quick call to Matt’s friend Ryan to let them know it was time to head back in. The boys did such a great job of keep Matt distracted on the way back in so he didn’t see everyone standing in the backyard waiting for the boat. As they approached the shore we all broke out into an impromptu song of “Happy Birthday” getting Matt’s attention. They were still pulling into the dock, so we couldn’t see his full reaction, but I’m sure the look on his face was priceless.
We met so many wonderful friends of Matt and Mandi’s. A special thanks though to Autumn and Jessica who helped Mandi set up from start to finish. On behalf of her “friends” who should have been helping instead of taking our time doing who-knows-what, we really appreciated you girls stepping up.
There were so many pictures that I couldn’t narrow it down for a blog post, so I made a little video instead. Apologies upfront for my jacked-up software that wouldn’t cooperate and made a really fuzzy low-quality video. I hope I’m the only one who gets bent out of shape about that kind of stuff and spends sixteen hours trying to figure out WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG! Enjoy.
