I am so happy for Meredith and Ben. They have been dating as long as I can remember, and it was so nice to see them finally get hitched on Saturday in Meredith’s hometown of Thomasville, Ga. Allen and I gladly made the six-hour trek over for the weekend. We wouldn’t have missed it! As usual, I was toting my camera the whole time and got some really fun shots. There are a lot of really random images in this post, so I’ll just recap them out for you.
The church. Thomasville is full of rich history. This church has been around since the mid-1800′s if I remember correctly.

Allen was an usher for the wedding and had to be to the church early for pictures, so I tagged along. I couldn’t resist the picture-in-a-picture shot here.

Oh I just adored Mere’s dad. He was beaming proud the whole day, but especially lit up as he walked his youngest daughter down the aisle. SO sweet.

As is the case in some churches, the photographer was not allowed to take pictures during the ceremony. Out of respect for his relationship with the church, he told Meredith that he would not be able to capture their vows. So I sat on the aisle and took as many as I discretely could. I did not use a flash, but the click of my shutter sounded like a door slamming in relation to the silence during the ceremony. The next images are a little blurry and out of focus because I was moving the camera back to my lap between each shot. But seeing that these may be the only photographs that Meredith and Ben have of their ceremony, I really don’t care and doubt they will either!

Tell me this… How is it that a group of mature, responsible adults, suddenly turn into kids when handed bubbles or sparklers at a wedding? I think we had all blown half the bubbles by the time the couple even came out of the church. There were bubbles everywhere. It was awesome.

One stray bubble…

The first dance.

Remember how I said I just adored Meredith’s dad? He sang and smiled the whole way through their dance. It was the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen.

Let’s talk about this VENUE. Oh my. Pebble Hill Plantation was off the hook! (Yes, I just said that.) It was easily in the top five wedding reception venues I have ever been to. My lack of plantation knowledge made me think there would be one giant white house with stone columns and rolling green hills. This was more like several giant, but charming brick homes with smaller servant quarters and stables that made up a small community. I wish we had had time to tour the grounds. The reception was held in a courtyard thick with old moss oak trees, creating a very intimate atomosphere.

And the food. I have never! They had whole fried okra which was new to me. I’m sure Allen almost freaked when I took a bite of a fried green tomato (read: I despise tomatoes). I just couldn’t help myself. I think the plantation life had already seeped deep into my brain and set up shop.

Speaking of delicious treats. Hellllo gorgeous…

A rare photo of me and the hubs. Thanks to Matt (in the left photo below with his sweet girlfriend Angela) for taking our picture.

Off to the side of the reception area was a stable. Maybe one of you equestrian gurus out there can explain this to me, but they had the biggest horses I have ever seen. Maybe it was the breed? Maybe we just don’t grow horses like that ’round these parts? I don’t know. Don’t get me wrong, they were beautiful horses (and one very friendly donkey – see below), but they were really big to me for some reason. This here is who I’ll affectionately call Mr. Donkey.

He trotted right over to greet us and then took kindly to Allen’s pants, slobbering and snotting all over them. Gross! This picture makes me laugh.

Sweet Allen. He wanted to be fair and let me have my time to pet the giant donkey. Like I said, Mr. Donkey WAS really sweet. He loved having Allen pet him and nudged his chest anytime he stopped. I’m sure we could have been great friends. However, I kindly reminded my husband that the donkey’s head was as big as his torso, and I’m not really comfortable being within arms length of such a massive animal. Maybe that’s just me…

A final shot from the night. What a great party. In the chance that Mrs. Smith or the Bennett Family may come across my little corner of the internet, I would just like to extend a big thank you for your gracious hospitality. It was so nice to meet you all after knowing Ben and Mere for all these years. It was a beautiful day in the company of beautiful people, and we were blessed to be a part of it. Thank you.
