Remember last month when I had my “500th comment” contest? Rachel was lucky #500 and won herself a free photography session. Her sister Kelly was getting married and although I said “no weddings” she wanted to give her a wedding-related session. The wedding was meant to be more like a family dinner, so Kelly hadn’t hired a photographer. A wedding without a wedding photographer is like jelly without peanut butter. It’s just wrong! Kelly didn’t want posed family portraits, so we tossed around some ideas and ended up deciding that coverage of the short wedding ceremony would be best. Rachel was flying down for the weekend, so it was the perfect opportunity for me to spend some time with a dear friend I never see while giving the gift of wedding photography to Kelly and Mark.
I arrived at the Terrapin Creek Lodge a few hours before the ceremony. Rach and I got in some QT, and I ended up taking more photos than planned. I wouldn’t dream of having it any other way!

Before the wedding, I spent my time alternating between the tiny bathroom where Kelly was getting ready and the bedroom to sit and talk with Rachel.

I was standing on the closed toilet (nice visual, huh?) getting the shots above when I looked up and saw Kelly’s daughter Caitlyn standing in the doorway. My heart melted. She leaned oh-so-casually against the door, but the look on her face was complete love and admiration. She watched so sweetly as her mom became a bride. I seriously almost cried right there.

Ever wonder what the men-folk do before the ceremony starts? This just about sums it up…

And the wedding begins. There couldn’t have been more than 30 people total at the wedding. It was the most intimate, family-oriented ceremony I have ever attended. The guests stood in a large semi-circle around the couple as they said their vows.

Kelly was beautiful, and Mark was obviously smitten.

Although we didn’t take family photos, I did take a few snapshots like this. I love this one of Kelly and her sisters. When I was done, Hayley returned the favor and took one of me and Rachel.
