happy thanksgiving

I have a confession. I don’t like traditional Thanksgiving food. It wouldn’t hurt my feelings if I never had to see sweet potato casserole, glazed carrots, green beans, mash potatoes with gravy or cranberry sauce. Turkey, yes. Stuffing, no. Not even pie. I’ve lived my almost-28 years on this earth as a very picky eater, and as hungry as I may be, if I don’t like it I won’t eat it. The truth is that instead of being stuffed to the brim on Thanksgiving like the rest of the country, I’m usually hungry all day long.

If it was up to me we’d have filet and lobster for the holidays. I’m sorry, but it’s the honest truth. The one and only thing I like to eat on Thanksgiving is homemade macaroni and cheese. I’m sure the pilgrims didn’t consider this a Thanksgiving food, but to me it is the one-and-only. I’m not talking about the boxed or frozen stuff either. I’m talking about straight-up-made-from-scratch-with-breadcrumbs-on-top Macaroni and Cheese. Sadly, even my own grandmother thinks this is weird, and I have to specifically request it each year. This year I decided to save everyone the trouble and make it myself.

Anytime I cook real food, I run around the kitchen like a crazy woman. I always underestimate how long it will take me to do each step. So, I’m not going to pretend to be food blogger and show you each step I took to cook this. Instead, here it is in all its beautiful Thanksgiving glory. Thanks to Jenn Rob for the wonderful recipe and to Allen for snapping a picture of me with my masterpiece.

We are headed out the door to enjoy the holiday with our family. I hope you all have a very Happy Thanksgiving with lots of homemade mac and cheese!

Rossi - For quite some time, I stood by and said nothing, fearing that you may be one of the 75 people in the world who suffers from the rare disease known as Tastebudicus Nonexistus. However, after being friends with you for a few years, I realize you’re downright picky, and I love you for it! You make me laugh.December 2, 2009 – 12:19 pm

Dianne - I can remember you spending the night at my house with Ashley and all you would eat was buttered bread !!! Your Mac & Cheese looks yummy!!November 29, 2009 – 12:15 pm

Ravyn - I made mac & cheese yesterday too. Nutmeg is the bomb :) I’m a vegetarian, so I can do without most of the traditional Thanksgivng food, but I couldn’t survive without some delicious baked mac & cheese. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!November 27, 2009 – 8:35 am

Katie - you’re hilarious, I love the pic of you and the mac and cheese. I thought you might be over your pickiness by now…. I dont understand how someone cannot like ‘sauce’ of any kind. no ketchup, no salad dressing, and most sadly (at least to me for having shared several pizzas w/ you over my lifetime) no pizza sauce! Happy Mac & Cheese Day to you!November 26, 2009 – 1:18 pm
