susie & chris | engaged

Chris and Allen have been friends since their days at Auburn. They were out together the night that we met, so we all go way back. Susie is the perfect complement to Chris and has seamlessly slipped into our group of friends. I was super excited when Susie and Chris asked me to take their engagement photos. Susie is gorgeous, and I knew she and Chris would be up for anything. Good looking + fun = awesome engagement pictures. And that is exactly what we got. I l-o-v-e every single one of these.

We started the session at Susie’s parents house. They live near this AMAZING lake. The beautiful colors of Alabama fall gave us a grand finale during the session. I think the colors above are stunning, but I felt called to channel my inner Ansel Adams for a few. I really really like this next black and white one.

After the lake, we high-tailed it downtown for a change of scenery before sunset. This is where that whole “up for anything” comes into play. I was all, “Jump up on that ledge by the grafitti.” And they totally rocked it out.

The beautiful ring. Oh, here’s a fun story! Chris had been casually telling Susie that although it would be “soon”, the timing just wasn’t right for them to get engaged. Susie’s birthday was coming up, but Chris gently told her to not get her hopes up. It just wasn’t time. Instead, he planned a nice dinner at a local restaurant for her and her family. When the waitress brought her cake, it didn’t say Happy Birthday Susie. It said, Will You Marry Me? How cool is that!? But it didn’t stop there. Chris also planned ahead for a big group of friends to be on standby in another room for a surprise birthday/congratulations party. It went off without a hitch, and it was obvious by the look on Susie’s face that she was 100% surprised. So fun!

I have to give a special shout out here to my wonderful husband. I was really sick the day of this session. Like, really really sick. But I knew that if we rescheduled, it would be spring before we would have a chance to shoot Chris and Susie’s engagement pictures. After much deliberation, sweet Allen loaded me in the car and drove me there. He carried my camera gear for me and helped me as much as he could. It turned out to be a great thing because he was also able to help loosen up our friends and make us all laugh. The best part was when he told me that there was “good light” right here, and he was right! I’m teaching him so well.

Ahhhhh. Such a great metaphor for marriage, don’t you think?

Isn’t it annoying how I always point out my favorite image from the session? I should really just let you see them all without my biased opinion so you can judge for yourself. But as Eric Cartman would say, “Whatevah! I do what I want.” Hi. My name is Amanda, and I watch South Park. This next image is my favorite. And for the record, the first image at the top is Allen’s. He likes to have opinions too.
