#37… check!

When I said you might see completed goals from my 38 in 365 project popping up pretty soon, I wasn’t kidding! The winter is typically slow for photographers, so I’m taking advantage of the free time and knocking things off my list left and right. I actually did “#37. Join Twitter” back in December after I created my list, but before I shared that list with you. I’m sorry for not telling you sooner.

In a general sense, I’m pretty slow to jump on a bandwagon. I am never an early adopter of technology or blazing new trails in the fashion world. I much prefer to sit back and watch it unfold while making an informed decision of whether or not to participate. (Although I am slowly coming around to the whole jeans tucked into the boots thing…) Social media does not come naturally to me as I am a bit of introvert and relatively private person. By design, my blog, Facebook and Twitter all go against my tendency to keep to myself and keep my business as my own. My blog has been a great excercise in opening up, and I am becoming more and more comfortable with sharing.

Let’s do the math:   Slow bandwagon jumper + social media enept = I really didn’t see the need to extend my online presence to Twitter.

However, at the prompting of Becker and Melissa Jill at their workshops this fall, I slowly began to toy with the idea. Since taking the plunge and joining Twitter in December, I find myself liking it more and more. The status updates (or tweets) pertain less to what someone is eating for lunch and more to what is happening within a particular industry or sub-culture. I am able to follow the folks that I want without the mess of application spam that I get on Facebook. I don’t want to play Farmville y’all, so please don’t ask me to paint your barn or look for your lost sheep. Thankyouverymuch.

If you are already on Twitter you we should totally be friends. Or follow. Or tweet. Or whatever it is that you do on Twitter! Although I can’t promise you that you won’t be subjected to my crazy random thoughts as they pop into my head, I’ll try to keep what I had for lunch to myself.

Gail - I’m right there with you. I once Tweeted that if social media were a high school cafeteria, Twitter would be where all the cool kids hang out ;)January 20, 2010 – 8:06 am
