I dare to say that our second day in Nashville was as (or more) fun as our first. We started the day in our hotel room watching the early kickoff of the Outback Bowl. I had big dreams of getting out and exploring the town with my camera, taking in all the sights we missed the night before. Anyone who watched the game knows that it had to be won three times before ending which put us later and later into the day. By the time we left the hotel room it was time to head out for an early dinner snack.
We stepped out the door into the FRIGID cold. I’m not kidding when I say that the first kick of cold air took my breath away. We walked down the street and around the corner and bumped right into Elvis himself. And then we took pictures. I just calmly told the big group who stared as they walked by, “It’s ok, we’re tourists!” This is what happens when you travel with me.

Nathan bought a souvenir guitar magnet from the Hard Rock Cafe, so we played with that while we waited on our snack. Then Jill left it on the table when we got up to leave. So sad! We’ll always the memories though.

After dinner, we headed up the street toward the glow of the neon lights with no real destination. We wandered into The Stage on Broadway and settled in to watch the band. The place was cozy and smelled a little like a funnel cake at a county fair – but not in a gross way. This giant mural of country music legends was painted on the wall. Only in Nashville, folks. Only in Nashville. Bonus points to the first person who can accurately name all five musicians!

The Dusty Hundley Band was the main act. When they first started we were just about the only people in the place, but The Stage staff continued to clear tables and chairs off floor as though they expected a large crowd. Things were kickin along nicely, but I turned around to do something and when I turned back, the place was packed. I still have no idea where all of those people came from! I was impressed with some of the old classics they pulled out, but sure do wish they had known “John Deere Green” – I’m pretty sure they’re working on it though…

In all, our first trip to Nashville was a success and such a fun way to start the new year. We met so many wonderful new friends while we were there and of course squeezed in some good quality time with Jill and Nathan. I’ve already come up with a good excuse to go back, so if your going to be in Nashville this weekend, give me a shout!
