a new perspective

Well, my year of becoming an “adult” has passed. I briefly considered turning 27 again, but I have reclaimed my senses and am fully embracing 28.

Did you know that I share my birthday with my late Granny? She was born on February 25, 1927. As I looked in the mirror this morning I thought of her and wondered about her life at 28. I’ve seen photographs of course, but what was she really like? Was she counting the wrinkles and crow’s feet, cursing another birthday? Or was she embracing being young, vibrant and full of life while she lived out her dreams of being a beautician? I can’t say. But I know that if she had to do it again, it would without a doubt be the latter. My thoughts of Granny were not morose, but rather energizing. Growing older doesn’t scare me. The numbers don’t scare me. Birthdays don’t scare me. I love them actually. They hold such promise of the year ahead.

Twenty-seven was a good year. One of the best I’ve had. But I have a feeling – just a sneaky little suspicion – that 28 will be even better!

In keeping with last year’s theme, here is a photo from birthday 13 (seriously, where did 15 years GO?). Ironically, my friend Kristen also shared our February 25 birthday. This is the only birthday photo I could find of me with my Granny, so I hope Kristen won’t mind.

P.S. Thank you for all the love you’ve sent already this morning. I had enough birthday wishes before 8 a.m. to fill my whole day. You guys are the best.

Rossi - This is precious! I love it. I don’t think our grandparents freaked out about growing older like our generation does. I’m not complaining, though. I plan to make lots of money, one day, off the freaking out of others!February 25, 2010 – 1:57 pm
