To say that I had fun with Courtney and Blake during their engagement session would be a drastic understatement. They are both so much fun to be around, and we literally laughed throughout the entire session. In an e-mail exchange about the session last night Courtney wrote, “Blake said he doesn’t care if they come out good or not because he had so much fun! Me too! Thanks for making it fun, doing weird stuff for me and freezing your butt off for us!” Girl - I couldn’t have said it better myself. Luckily, the images turned out GREAT!
Even though it was cold, we had one of the first sunny days we’ve had in some time. The light on the tracks was perfect, so we started our warm up shots there. One of my favorite things about engagement sessions is how awkward it is at first. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not being ugly. I just mean that most couples don’t have a big time photo shoot like this every day, so it’s usually super awkward through the first few shots. You can literally feel the tension lift and the nerves go away. And that’s when the fun begins…

Something super funky was happening with my wide angle lens right here. I positioned Courtney and Blake and took a couple of test shots. I tried a couple of different things in camera and then a new pose, but my lens was going haywire. I put it back in my bag thinking I’d just toss these images, but guess what? I’m loving what happened. They are kind of perfectly imperfect and messy in a fun way. Such a nice surprise.

Blake was unofficially given my “best sport at an engagement session” award because he was so awesome through the whole shoot. He willingly did everything Courtney and I asked of him. I love these next two because this is how it pretty much went the whole time. I would instruct him to do something sweet, he would, and then we’d all die laughing.

This one is for you Courtney. I hope you love it as much as I do!

We were shooting in a part of town where trains were constantly running through. I was setting up a shot facing the other direction when this bright yellow train passed by. I hollered and waved my arms, and the two of them rushed over. I was screaming stuff at them, but I don’t think they could hear me.

Um, probably my favorite from the session. Agree?

So we started the session on the train tracks, and we finished the session on the train tracks. The difference? Courtney and Blake were old pros by now!

When we got back to the car, I’m sure Blake let out a silent sigh of relief when he was given the ok to put his Auburn hat back on. I couldn’t resist firing off one last round of pictures. Even though Courtney and Blake’s personalities show through in the images above, THIS is the true them. Courtney in her big glasses and Blake in his Auburn hat, both relaxed and having fun goofing off with each other.

Thanks you guys for such an awesome afternoon. I really did have so much fun! I hope your wedding in Barbados is a BLAST, and we’ll see you in April!
