grey and willow

Our good friends Brian and Kristen have the two most loveable husky pups, Grey and Willow. Kristen and I had been throwing around the idea of a photo shoot for a few months. We wanted to do it while the weather was still cold so that the huskies would be most in their element. As we walked out of work on Friday, my eyes lit up. I excitedly suggested that we shoot in the SNOW that was starting to accumulate. It was a rare moment of brillance. We met up near their home a few hours later for a freezing cold, snow filled family session.

Meet Grey. She is just a little more than a year old and is Kristen and Brian’s first puppy. I was surprised at how willing she was to have her photo taken. Many times dogs shy away and won’t actually make eye contact with the camera. Not Grey. She pretty much stole the show.

Willow is the newest addition to the family. Kristen and Brian were looking for a playmate for Grey when Willow’s breeder got in touch about finding a home for her. She was much more timid toward the camera than Grey, but with a few steathly moves and tricks, I was able to capture that sweet face.

We were able to catch just a few family photos like this next one. Let me tell you… it was a group effort to wrangle up the pups and get everyone together. My sweet husband came along to help and did a great job holding and handing out treats.

The huskies were so excited to be out in the snow, sniffing out all of the new places. It was a mess of twisted leashes and a struggle to maintain balance as they tugged on their leashes and ran crazy. Look closely at the photo below. Brian is trying to catch his stance as Willow pulls so hard on her leash that her front paws are not even making contact with the ground. Thank goodness he had a tight grip though because it looks like she was headed straight for me!

I couldn’t let my cute friends get away without a few shots of just them. Allen dog-sat Grey and Willow while we snapped a few quick photos off to the side.

The snow was gone by midday Saturday, so I’m glad that we took advantage of the beautiful backdrop for the huskies’ session. The frozen fingertips and wet-up-to-my-knees were totally worth it!
