i love blogs

I love blogs. It was The Pioneer Woman who first lured me in with this post back in the spring of 2008. I spent the next few weeks immersed in her posts discovering a world I never really knew existed – the world of blogging. I mean sure, I had heard of blogs. I even knew a couple of people that had them. But I thought of blogs more as a personal online journal with nothing more to offer than personal musings and uninteresting commentary. I didn’t make a habit of reading them.

The Pioneer Woman changed that. Her wit, humor and chatty writing style drew me in, and I stayed. Through her, I found more bloggers that I grew to love. Then more, and more, and more. I was especially drawn to photography blogs – probably for the same reason that I like to read books and magazines with big words and lots of pictures!

When I got engaged a few years ago, the first thing I did was head to Barnes & Noble and buy up every wedding magazine they had. I scanned through them like a housekeeper on speed and then… nothing. I was done. Finished. And stuck waiting for the next month’s (or SEASON’S) issue.

If you are engaged, you know the frustration I’m talking about. In wedding magazines, the trends are the same, the content is the same, the neverending ADS are the same. If only I had known then what I know now. That the world of blogs – photography blogs, wedding blogs, design blogs – existed. There are tons of inspirational blogs out there for brides to be. The awesome thing is that the content is updated all the time. Some of them are even updated multiple times a day. You can see REAL weddings of REAL brides, just like you. Dresses and centerpieces and invitations, oh my!

Below are a few of my favorite sites for brides-to-be looking for inspiration for your own big day. Just make sure you have 500 hours to spare before diving in!

Gail - Oooh..I’ve become OBSESSED with style and vendor blogs in the past six months, so thanks for sharing a few I didn’t know (and the few I did, I’ll just echo your love :)

Writing wise, do you read http://www.dooce.com? She was one of the first bloggers I discovered about 5 years ago and I think I spent 8 hours straight reading her stuff, laughing my butt off.

House wise, if you don’t follow the Young House Love crew, you really should. If they weren’t so darn inspiring, I’d hate them for being so perfect :)February 11, 2010 – 2:11 pm
