katie & nathan | local artist spotlight

Last week I had the pleasure of taking product shots for our friends Katie and Nathan. They have a cool little start-up business creating custom pieces of functional pottery and jewelry. I have been gifting their work to my friends and family since the beginning and really think they have a great thing going on. I thought I’d feature a few quick shots of some of my favorite pieces we photographed.

Allen is an avid angler and am always on the lookout for cool ways to incorporate his hobby into our home. The first time I saw these fish plates, I was sold. I’m not sure if they were intended for it, but I immediately bought one and started using it as a spoon rest on our stove. The fish have evolved over time, so mine doesn’t look exactly like this, but I love them still.

MONSTER BOWLS! This was one of the first pieces that Nathan created. I’ve visited Katie and Nathan at art shows, and these monster bowls are the first things to go. They are as functional as your typical dip or small side bowl, but the beady eyes and claw feet set it apart. We actually use ours as a sponge holder on the sink.

The robot bottles are new to me, but I am so impressed with the creativity that Nathan puts into each one. With unique colors and hand-carved expressions, no two bottles are the same. The coolest part? — The robot’s head is removable and can be used as a shot glass!

Katie has been creating jewelry for as long as I can remember, but she has really found her niche through the clay rings and necklaces. The jewelry is one-of-a-kind and surprisingly affordable — which means I’ve given one as a gift to pretty much everyone I know that wears jewelry. Come to think of it, they would make awesome bridesmaid or hostess gifts!

And a headshot of the couple to finish out the product shoot!

Katie and Nathan sell their artwork at arts and crafts shows all over Alabama and have plans to open an Etsy shop soon. I promise to share that with you when it is ready. Until then, get in touch with me if you are interested, and I’ll hook you up with Katie!
