avery and lyla turn one

The only thing that I can think of that is better than photographing a baby girl in celebration of her first birthday is photographing twin baby girls ON the day of their first birthday. That is exactly what I got to do with twin sisters Avery and Lyla. Their mother is a friend of another of my sweet clients, and I was excited to be part of her girls’ big day. The sun was shining brightly the day of our session, but the skies started to cloud over as I left the house to head to meet them. By the time I arrived the sky was a dark ominous gray and you could see the storm moving in. Mom and I decided to go for it and shoot as much as we could. I am so glad we went ahead with the session, and the images we got were worth it!

Avery (left) and Lyla (right) were not quite so keen on the grass at first. They held their feet up high as they tried to figure out exactly what was going on.

Avery was the first to break ranks and try crawling on the grass, while Lyla was a little more hesitant.

Avery was so curious about the camera and crawled over to me several times to look up into it to see what was going on. At one point toward the end she crawled right up in my lap. It was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. No kidding I almost took her home with me right then and there. Oh, and it cracks me up that Lyla is still in the background with her foot in the air!

Lyla was a bit more reserved during our session, but those big blue eyes and sweet little face went straight to my heart. She took her sister’s lead and once she got to crawling, there was no stopping her.

Avery and Lyla are just learning to stand by themselves. With a little help from mom and dad they showed off just how well they are doing!

Since it was the girls first birthday, I stopped on my way to the session and bought them each a balloon. After a quick outfit change, mom and dad sat them back in the grass to let them play. They weren’t quite sure what to make of it at first, but ended up having a lot of fun making drum noises and holding the balloons. Happy Birthday Avery and Lyla!
