I have known Kristi and Eric for a long time. They ran in the same circles as my brother in college, and we have since kept in touch through Facebook and mutual friends. I had never met their son, so I was really excited when Kristi contacted me about photographing a family/maternity session for them this summer. We scheduled the session for the perfect time in her pregnancy (around 30-32 weeks) and finally met up on Sunday. I just love this family, and I know they are looking forward to welcoming their new little baby boy into the world!

It is hard to know what to expect when you photograph a three-year-old boy. Their willingness to participate in a session can run from totally-up-for-whatever-you-say to I-could-really-care-less. But Bryant was down with the whole process and really had fun with it.

In my post yesterday, I mentioned that Bryant sat with me a few times and helped direct his parents. When I took this series I was squatting down below, and he was sitting on my knee. He told his mom and dad to spread apart so we could see the sun between them. That was exactly what I was thinking, but hadn’t quite gotten the words out of my mouth — no lie! And the photos turned out beautifully. The kid is brilliant!

Sweetest thing I ever seen!

I’m not sure where it came from, but Bryant was determined to hang from the tree. He wasn’t scared at all, even when Eric let go for a few seconds. Kristi told me that if we raised up his sleeves I would see all the scrapes and bruises from that very kind of thing. Sweet AND adventurous… that’s my kind of kid!
