Today is a good day. I received a text this morning that simply said, “It’s up!” I ran to my office and jumped over the chair. I went directly to my friend Wynter’s blog and waited for the page to load. I slowly read her words and looked at the first photo. My mom with her husband, Allen. Happiness. I continued to scroll slowly, soaking in each image. My brother. I love that butthead. My dad and stepmom, Shelia. Smiles. Me and my husband. My eyes welled up, but I choked it back… barely.
Last month my family and I headed out to meet my friend Wynter and have family photos made. Sure, growing up we did the Olan Mills thing, the school portrait thing, even the Glamour Shots thing (hey it was the early 90′s!), but we’ve never had real family portraits made. Family portraits that are relaxed, fun and give a small glimpse into the family dynamic. The kind of photos I have built my entire business on. REAL family portraits.
In the weeks leading up to my family’s session I fielded phone calls about locations and wardrobe and in the process really got in touch with how my clients must feel while preparing for their own sessions. For the record, it is really hard to coordinate two families of five! Our experience with Wynter was amazing, and I can honestly say the photos are everything I had hoped they would be. These images will be TREASURED by me and my family, and I’m so glad that we did this. In an effort to practice what I preach, I have also marked #6. Have professional family pictures taken off of my 38 in 365 list!
If you haven’t already, check out Wynter’s full post of my family’s session. I snagged one of each family for my blog, but there are some more classic shots of me with my brother and some very, very long overdue photos of me and Allen. While you’re over there, don’t forget to leave her some comment love!
