ravyn & jimmy

The internet is a funny thing. The photography community has carved out it’s own little pocket on the world wide web and between forums, facebook, e-mail and blogs, our online world is a small one. Ravyn Stadick is a photographer based in Indianapolis, Indiana who I met this very way. While I was in Indianapolis last weekend, we were able to get together to give her and her cute hubby a little face time IN FRONT of the camera. Like I have said before, it is a little intimidating to photograph a fellow photographer. But Ravyn and her husband, Jimmy, could not have been any cooler about the whole process. Their awesome chemistry and ease in front of the camera made this one of my very favorite sessions.

There was a sweet little alley way near where we started. I think the best part of the session for me was that I was in a new place that I had never seen or been to. There were no preconcieved ideas about where I should shoot or what we should do, so it opened up a level of creativity that I don’t get to explore here in Birmingham.

This amazing bridge from the sneak peek was by far my favorite place we stopped. The colors and the light cast from sun setting behind them was making me do a happy dance on the inside. I am in love with pretty much this entire series and would do whole blog post on it alone if you let me.

To the person who threw these shopping carts out back with complete disregard to the mess you were making. THANK YOU! They made the perfect prop for our little photo shoot!

It’s hard to believe, but all of these locations were within about a two block radius. Next to the bridge, this grassy area came in a close second as the best spot we visited. If we had been in Alabama, I’m pretty sure there would have been a snake somewhere nearby, but we were in Indiana, so we just trudged right in. Ravyn and Jimmy were 100% willing to do whatever I wanted, and the awesome shots we got totally reflect their trust in a crazy Southerner.

Birmingham should consider painting all of their fire hydrants teal, don’t you think?

We were actually done and walking back to the car when I got my bossy voice on and told them to sit. right. here. now. or else. Ok, not really like that, but I am so glad we stopped for one last grand finale, because these make me smile.

Laurie H. - Hi Amanda – I love this post too! They are such a cute couple and it’s fun to see photos taken in such a “non-traditional” setting. I love your style of photography and your blog. You keep it informative, fun, creative and your turn-around time with photos is impressive. If I’m not already helping Wynter, I would love to 2nd shoot w/ you sometime if you are ever in need! Again, this post is one of my favs!June 22, 2010 – 2:47 pm

Coe - Yes, INCREDIBLE once again my friend! If only you could word this for me (something you do so well), but this felt down-home-southern. Looked southern, felt southern, seemed southern. Ravyn and Jimmy even dress southern. That doesn’t make any sense, but it’s what I see in the pictures. Me being one that loves “engagement shots” with married couples – Amanda Pair style – the 3rd bridge picture is my favorite! It was a hard choice, but I narrowed it down. Yes Jordy; Tebow has a cousin in Indiana I do believe!June 22, 2010 – 2:33 pm

Jordan - This is a GREAT post! They are so cute!!! Maybe it’s just me, but Jimmy kinda reminds me of Tim Tebow in a way. I love the blue bridge and the cart shots. They’re really all GREAT!!!June 22, 2010 – 2:20 pm

Rachel Young - Hi Amanda! Awesome job photographing one of my FAVORITE couples ever!!! I’m so glad they were able to get some face time in front of the camera with an amazing photgrapher! The shots you got are great. I love the tall grass shots … and don’t be so sure that there weren’t snakes!!! =DJune 22, 2010 – 2:10 pm

Ravyn - Amanda, you’re awesome! These are awesome. I think my favorite part was that these were all within that little radius in town … just goes to show how talented you are! I can’t wait to see the full session, and I really can’t wait to see you (and meet Allen) in July!June 22, 2010 – 1:59 pm

glenna - Love the pictures Amanda. Your ability to shoot such great pictures in unfamiliar territory is really showing through! Hope to see many more “location” shots in the future…hope some more in Dallas, too! It is nice to put a name with a face…I see Ravyn’s comments frequently. Cute couple!!June 22, 2010 – 11:58 am

Jonathan - Love these! Especially the shopping card/bakers rack pics! Oh, and I totally agree with the teal hydrants…it’s my favorite (signature) color. hahaJune 22, 2010 – 11:14 am

Melissa - The internet is a crazy place. I knew you were going to hang with her after I read a comment on her blog… which I follow almost as religiously as yours!

I can’t pick a fav. It might be the ones with her laying in the field with her head on his lap. or the bridge ones. or the grocery carts. see.. I just can’t pick. I love them all. What a cute couple.June 22, 2010 – 11:09 am

lauren Wakefield - AWESOME! I’ve known Ravyn for a long time and her laugh is exactly that same as it was in middle school. Super super job. I agree that the bridge ones are perfect…if you’re ever in Chicago I’m going to have to have you come take some of me and my boy toy! :)June 22, 2010 – 10:48 am
