Y’all might remember a few years back when I blogged about a trip to the beach with our close group of friends — you know, the vacation that resulted in a trip to the emergency room? Well two-and-a-half years later, we finally made it back to Group Therapy! Our trip was much, much different this year with four kiddos in tow (and two on the way!). I know we will look back so fondly on these days and wanted to make sure to take a lot of pictures. It was an exercise in photographing the ordinary. We didn’t set up a lot of posed shots, so I had to remember to pull out my camera even when it seemed nothing interesting was happening. Most of these shots are just us doing our normal lounge-around-the-house thing, but it is exactly how I remember our time together.

This is an example of being glad I had my camera out. The kids were playing in the backyard, and we were taking turns pulling them in the wagon. We were trying to get the girls to hug when Rosston walked up and shoved their heads together. I just so happened to have my camera pointed right at them for the split second their faces touched. I snapped twice and this is what resulted. It is one of my favorites from the whole trip!

We hauled the whole group — including the babies — down to the beach on our last night there. Us girls have been friends since middle school, so it is very likely that our kids will grow up together too. I love the idea of having these photos to show them when they are older. Poor Graham was not feeling it, so I snapped just a few shots before mom and dad swooped in to help. I giggle every time I see this picture though.

Later that night (with a babysitter at the house) we walked back out to the beach for a bonfire. I wanted to take photos, but it was pitch black except for the light of the fire, and my camera (Canon 5d mkII) does not have a built in flash. In the end it is the memories — not the technical accuracy — that I care about the most. ISO 3200 | 50mm f/1.2 | 1/50 sec (with some cooling and brightening in Lightroom).
