a hands-free vacation

Heelllloooo! Believe it or not, I haven’t actually fallen off the face of the world like it would seem from the last time I posted here :) My absence was unknowingly set into motion a few weeks ago with a post I ran across on the Hands Free Mama blog. Have you guys seen this blog? As someone who is admittedly distracted by the pull of social media and the need to be constantly “connected”, the post How to Miss a Childhood lingered with me long after my browser closed. It instantly changed my mindset and in the days and weeks since then, I have been looking for ways to cut out the excess in my life. (UPDATED TO ADD: I went back and read the post I linked to, and it was actually THIS POST that changed me. However, both are worth reading.)

When Allen said he wanted to spend his upcoming week-long vacation at the beach, I knew it was the perfect opportunity for us both to go hands free. So that is what we did — we spent the week away from our phones and computers and Facebook and WORK and went on vacation as a family! I did my very best to stay out of my typical traps of e-mail, Facebook and Twitter and enjoy 10 full days with my family. There were actually a few days that I left the phone at home altogether. And you know what? The world didn’t end without me chiming in every half hour. Go figure.

I’m back to work this week with lots of catching up to do, but until I get a chance to round up recent sessions to blog and make some headway on editing, a snippet of our wonderful hands-free week will have to do. See you soon!
